The Jewish Community of Helsinki has released a powerful new documentary, The New Faces of Antisemitism in Finland, shedding light on the contemporary realities faced by Jews in Finnish society. Supported by the European Jewish Fund, the documentary explores how antisemitism today often manifests in subtle, coded and modern forms — online hate, conspiracy theories, anti-Israel hostility and social exclusion — rather than only through the overt hatred many associate with the past. Through testimonies, expert analysis, and real-life experiences, the film gives voice to a community that is often perceived as invisible in Finland, challenging the misconception that antisemitism is a problem limited to other parts of Europe.
Building on the impact of this first documentary, the Jewish Community of Helsinki is now preparing an ambitious next phase: a ten-episode documentary series dedicated to the history, present, and future of Jewish life in Finland. The series will trace the community’s journey from its early roots and wartime experiences to contemporary cultural, religious, and civic life, while also addressing the challenges Jews face today. By combining historical depth with present-day storytelling, the project aims to humanise Jewish life, counter stereotypes, and place Finland’s Jewish community firmly within the broader European narrative.
Planned for international broadcast, the series is designed as both a cultural and educational tool, reaching audiences far beyond Finland. At a time when antisemitism is rising across Europe, this project offers a rare opportunity to change perceptions, amplify Jewish voices, and promote understanding through storytelling.
