Centropa Jewish Network seminar in Berlin
The Centropa Jewish Network (CJN), a professional development network for Jewish school educators in Europe, held a three-day professional development seminar in Berlin between 20-22 March 2022. The seminar brought together 27 educators from 10 European countries with the aim to deepen participant’s knowledge of Jewish history and the Holocaust, present educational materials and methods to teach about these topics in an engaging way, and provide opportunities for teachers to share best practices, exchange ideas, and form partnerships.
To achieve these goals, the seminar included the presentation of Centropa materials with a special focus on Germany: interviews, films, and websites on the Kindertransport and the November pogrom. In addition, veteran teachers presented successful Centropa lessons and projects, and the National Library of Israel lead an online workshop about their resource packs. The seminar also included several walking tours to discover Jewish Berlin.
The participants created a WhatsApp group during the seminar and stayed in touch after the event up till today. They are sharing articles, films and all kind of materials relevant to teaching Jewish heritage, history and the Holocaust. This shows the success of CJN’s program building a community of Jewish schools’ educators.
