Centropa students competition, awards ceremony
The 7th Centropa Jewish Network student competition, one of the most successful programs of CJN, announced the winners during an online awards ceremony on May 25 2022.
This year 66 students participated with the assistance of 15 teachers. By involving these teachers actively in accomplishing student projects we make them more committed not only to Centropa, but also to the subject of teaching Jewish history and the Holocaust. Students had the opportunity to strengthening their Jewish identity and by creating the projects they got a better understanding of their past and how it is relevant for them today.
The CJN student competition asks Jewish school students from Europe, the US and Israel to research their community’s history and culture, and present their findings in creative ways –either as a film or as an artwork. The competition has three categories – Virtual Jewish Cookbook, Family History and My Community. This year CJN received 38 student projects from 6 schools and 6 countries.
This competition provides an opportunity for students to explore their Jewish heritage in creative and engaging ways. During the project, they not only learn new information in an active way (which means they will remember it much better), they also sharpen their tech skills, and ability to research, and work in a team. Overall, the program also aimed at strengthening the Jewish identity of students, as by creating the projects they will have a better understanding of their past and how it is relevant for them today.
