Gabriel Steinhardt was elected President of the Jewish Community of Lisbon (Comunidade Israelita de Lisboa) for the 2016-2018 triennium on June 5th, 2016 and he is in office since July 12th, 2016.
Steinhardt is a businessman who acted in the past as Managing Director of several international companies in Portugal and in Spain. His professional background also includes B.O.D. level membership in business associations in both countries.
He is fully fluent in English, Spanish, French, Hebrew and Portuguese. Having lived in Israel from 1975 to 1990 and as the result of his frequent visits, Gabriel Steinhardt has an in-depth knowledge of all Israel related issues, having also acquired major experience and skills as a Spokesman and in Press and Public Relations, including hasbara.
Steinhardt is a proud Jew with an extensive and longstanding track record of involvement with the Jewish Community of Lisbon since his early years, as a member and a counsellor of the local Youth Movement. Furthermore, he has been elected twice for the B.O.D of his community, under two different Presidents.
He is deeply committed to strengthening and promoting quality Jewish life in Lisbon. Through innovative and forward thinking actions, his goals are growing and building a thriving Jewish community that should be inclusive, accessible, educated and engaged, with strong international ties with Israel and the Jewish Diaspora.
